ChoreScore Education Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 7, 2026

This Education Privacy Policy describes how ChoreScore ("we," "us," or "our") handles student information when the app is used in a school or classroom setting. It supplements the general ChoreScore Privacy Policy and works together with the Education Data Agreement. Where this policy and the general Privacy Policy differ for school use, this policy controls for student information.

1. Scope and who this applies to

This policy applies whenever a teacher creates a classroom in ChoreScore, when students join that classroom using a class join code, and to the student activity that follows. The school or district is the educational institution responsible for the student records, the teacher acts on the school's behalf, and ChoreScore acts as the school's service provider. We intend our handling of student information to be consistent with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and applicable U.S. state student-data privacy laws. Under COPPA, a school may provide consent for the collection of students' personal information on behalf of parents, solely for the use and benefit of the educational setting and for no other commercial purpose.

2. Student information we collect

We collect only the information needed to run the classroom features:

We do not ask students for more personal information than is reasonably needed to participate in the classroom, and we do not require students to disclose information as a condition of participating beyond what is listed as required above.

3. How student information is used

Student information is used only to provide and support the educational service: creating and operating classrooms, assigning and tracking tasks and study packs, running classroom activities such as class tasks, classroom rewards, and learning games, awarding credits and points, maintaining streaks and leaderboards within the class, letting teachers review submissions, and providing optional AI coaching feedback when a teacher enables it. We do not sell student information, we do not use it for targeted advertising, and we do not use it to build a profile of a student for any purpose other than running the service for the school.

Classroom activities — class tasks, classroom rewards, and learning games like Eye Spy — do not use artificial intelligence at any stage. Photo proof a student uploads for a class task is shown only to the student's own teacher for review. Pictures taken during a learning game like Eye Spy stay on the student's device and are not uploaded or reviewed — only the game result (such as the letter played and how many items were found) is recorded. No classroom activity photo is ever sent to OpenAI or any other AI or machine-learning system.

4. Consent and acknowledgement

The teacher acknowledges this policy and the Education Data Agreement when creating a classroom, and the acknowledgement is recorded with a timestamp. Students (or those acting on their behalf) acknowledge these terms when joining a class with the join code, and that acknowledgement is also recorded with a timestamp. Schools remain responsible for providing any direct parental notice or consent required by their own policies or by law before directing students to use the app.

5. Data retention, export, and deletion

We keep student information only for as long as the classroom is active or as the school reasonably needs it for the educational purpose. An authorized teacher (or the student) can request an export of a student's stored data, and a student's data can be permanently deleted on request. Deletion removes the student's profile and associated activity records within a reasonable time. Schools and teachers may also contact us at hello@chorescore-app.com to request export or deletion.

6. Service providers

We share limited information only with providers that help us run the app, and only as needed to do so:

These providers are permitted to use student information only to perform services for us and not for their own purposes.

7. International transfers and regional rights

ChoreScore is operated from, and student information is stored and processed in, the United States and potentially other countries whose data-protection laws may differ from those where the School is located. Where a School or its students are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another region with transfer restrictions, and to the extent the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or a similar law applies, ChoreScore acts as a processor handling student data on the School's documented instructions, assists the School with data-subject requests, and relies on appropriate transfer safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) where required. The School remains responsible for establishing the lawful basis and any parental notice or consent required in its jurisdiction. Requests to exercise data-protection rights should be directed to the School, or to us at hello@chorescore-app.com, and we will assist the School as required by law.

8. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

The educational service is provided to Schools "as is" to the fullest extent permitted by law and without warranties of any kind. Nothing in this policy is professional advice. Our liability in connection with the educational service is limited as set out in our Education Data Agreement and Terms of Use, except that nothing limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

9. Contact

Questions about this policy, or requests to access, export, or delete a student's information, can be sent to hello@chorescore-app.com.
