ChoreScore ("we," "us," or "our") is a family chore and rewards app used by parents and their children (teens, generally ages 10–17). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how we store it, the choices families have, and the rights available to people in different regions. The Service is available globally; by creating an account or using the app, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you use ChoreScore in a school or classroom setting, our Education Privacy Policy also applies and controls for student information.
ChoreScore is designed for families. A parent or guardian creates the household account and invites their child to join with an invite code. Children may only use ChoreScore after a parent or guardian sets up the household and consents to their participation. Parents are responsible for managing their child's account.
We collect the following information so the app can work:
We do not sell personal information, we do not "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not use children's information for targeted advertising. ChoreScore does not show ads.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process personal data on these legal bases:
We share limited information only with providers that help us run the app, and only as needed. They may process information on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes:
We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our Terms of Use, to protect the rights, safety, or property of families or the public, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (with continued protection of your information).
We operate globally and store and process information in the United States and other countries, which may have data-protection laws different from those where you live. When we transfer personal data out of the EEA, the UK, or other regions with transfer restrictions, we rely on appropriate safeguards where required, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK addendum). You may contact us for more information about these safeguards.
Information is stored in a secured database. Passwords are stored only as salted, one-way hashes and are never visible to us or to other users. Access to accounts requires a valid session. We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect family data. While no system can be guaranteed perfectly secure, if we become aware of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify affected users and authorities as required by applicable law.
We keep information for as long as an account is active, and afterward only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described here or as required by law. Parents can delete a child's account or their own account from inside the app (Profile screen). Deleting the last parent account can also delete the household and its data. You may also request deletion of your family's data by emailing us at hello@chorescore-app.com, and we will delete it within a reasonable time unless we must retain it to comply with law.
ChoreScore is intended to be set up and supervised by a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child without a parent or guardian setting up the household and consenting through it.
United States (COPPA). For children under 13 in the United States, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act requires verifiable parental consent before collecting personal information. A parent provides this consent when creating the household and adding the child, and consent to the optional AI features (which may send a child's task photo and messages to OpenAI) is part of that step. A parent can review their child's information, refuse to permit further collection, and request deletion at any time by using the Profile screen or contacting us. We collect only the information reasonably needed for a child to participate.
EEA/UK (GDPR). Where a child is below the age of digital consent in their country (13–16 depending on the country), the required consent is given and can be withdrawn by the holder of parental responsibility. If you believe a child has provided us information without the required parental consent, contact us and we will delete it.
Subject to applicable law, you (or a parent acting for a child) may have the right to:
To exercise these rights, email hello@chorescore-app.com. We will respond within the time required by law. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection supervisory authority.
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose; to request access to and deletion of that information; to correct inaccurate information; and not to be discriminated against for exercising your rights. In the past 12 months we have collected the categories of information described in Section 2 (identifiers such as name and email, account and household content, photos, and internet/usage activity) to provide and secure the Service. We disclose limited information to the service providers listed in Section 5 for those purposes only. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise your rights, email hello@chorescore-app.com; you may use an authorized agent, and we will verify requests as required by law.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where required by law, provide additional notice.
Questions about privacy or requests about your data can be sent to hello@chorescore-app.com.
